President Maia Sandu said that if the Government of Natalia Gavriliţa is voted in this week, this has a plan and will work according to it. If it is not vote in, she will announce the candidate who will be nominated for the second attempt later. “I will wait for the Parliament’s decision and will then inform about my subsequent steps,” IPN quoted Maia Sandu as saying in a news conference.

Asked if she will have discussions with the Socialists so as to obtain guarantees that they will not vote for the Gavriliţa Government, Maia Sandu reiterated that she had discussions with the Socialists in accordance with the Constitution, as she had with the other parliamentary parties. “I know that later the PAS MPs had intentions to obtain public guarantees for triggering snap parliamentary elections. As far as I know, such public guarantees weren’t provided. We will now wait for the MPs’ decision later this week,” stated President Sandu.

She added that the candidate for Premier and her team will go to Parliament to ask for a vote of confidence and the MPs will then explain their decision. The next stage of the process will be then implemented, but snap elections will anyway take place sooner or later.

In his online program on February 5, the president of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said the decision not to vote for the Gavriliţa Government is definitive. Asked how the Party of Socialists will act if another candidate is proposed when Parliament makes the second attempt to vote in the Prime Minister, Igor Dodon said the MPs of the PSRM will vote in a Government only if they are represented by this. He noted that snap parliamentary elections will most probably be held in June.
