President Maia Sandu denied the information made public by the mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban concerning the daily requests to ensure a green corridor. She said the mayor’s assertions are incorrect as she never used the privileges of her office since she took up and never used the siren in traffic. In another development, President Maia Sandu said the Republic of Moldova is concerned about the tensions at the border between Russia and Ukraine and voiced hope that the great international players will identify peaceful solutions, IPN reports.

President Sandu noted the Republic of Moldova is profoundly concerned about the tense relations between Moscow and Kiev and about an eventual invasion of Ukraine by Russia after Moscow detached troops at the border.

“We are also concerned. The situation is difficult and I hope peaceful solutions will be found. We are analyzing the situation and exchanging information with our partners. We are preparing for a rather dramatic thing to the extent to which we can prepare. But it’s clear that we do not have appropriate solutions for something like this. We hope the international players involved in these discussions will manage to identify peaceful solutions,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Good Evening” on the public TV channel M1.

The official noted the overcoming of international isolation and the restoration of good relations with the two neighbors, Romania and Ukraine, are among the accomplishments of 2021.

“The previous relations with Romania and Ukraine were shameful. We have a special relationship with Romania and benefit from full support. We have specific problems with Ukraine, but we anyway have good relations and support each other. We make effort to develop the relations. We are on the European Union’s agenda. Everyone wants to help us, including financially. The €60 million provided to deal with the gas issue came. The agreement with the IMF was approved. It is now important to invest this money and to enjoy the results of these investments,” stated Maia Sandu.

The official expressed her indignation at mayor Ion Ceban’s assertions that the traffic congestion in Chisinau is also due to the high-ranking officials who daily ask to ensure a green corridor.

“The one who disseminates such information can be issued with a detailed report about the cars with sirens used by his party mates, each day, with or without purpose, the vehicles of the State Guard and Protection Service that they damaged in accidents because they traveled at high speed. The accident in Floreni was only one instance that became known, but there were much more such examples. As to the green corridor, I never used this privilege and told the guard employees not to use it either. You can travel to work earlier in the morning, when there are no traffic jams, and can return home later in the evening, when there are no more traffic jams. I stay in jams if I leave home after 7:30am, but this is the situation. I never used the siren since I took up my duties,” stated President Sandu.

She noted that in 2022 the Presidential Office will design a board country afforestation program and a project to modernize the education system. An international conference to attract foreign financing was scheduled for the start of next year.
