Four parties of the center-right – the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS), the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” , the European People’s Party and the Liberal Democratic Party – are having discussions to identify a candidate for the presidential elections. But only the first two parties expressed interest in having a common candidate so far, the PAS leader Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

According to Maia Sandu, the Liberal Democratic Party has taken part in the discussions as an observer only as the party is to first choose a chairman and to calm things down inside the party.

The PAS head also said that a candidate from outside the political sphere could be chosen. “The first option is to select a candidate from among members of political parties, but the chosen candidate could be from outside politics too,” she stated.

Also, Maia Sandu noted that she could herself be the candidate for President. “I want to run. An internal poll inside the PAS showed that most of the party members are for my candidacy, but the decision is not yet final. I will not insist on my candidature in the talks held to choose a common candidate,” she said.

The presidential elections were scheduled for October 30, 2016.
