It is important to re-establish relations with the European Union and count on the support of the European People's Party (EPP). The statement belongs to Prime Minister Maia Sandu and was made at a press conference held after the meeting with Joseph Daul, PPE President, IPN reports.

"The European People's Party has been constantly promoting democratic values within the EU. We have been supported during the transition period from an oligarchic regime to a democratic one, respected by citizens”, said Maia Sandu.

The prime minister said that the Government led by her was aware of the commitments that the Republic of Moldova made towards the European Union and wanted to meet them. "We count on the EPP support and hope that the November congress will be an opportunity to pass, as at 2018 congress, a resolution declaring unequivocal support for the Eastern Partnership countries that have signed association agreements", said Maia Sandu.

The prime minister gave her assurance to both the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the states of the European Union that the Government was determined to meet its commitments.

In his turn, Joseph Daul mentioned that it was very difficult when corruption reigned over the country. "Regarding the Republic of Moldova, we must continue to adopt laws in order to change the judicial system," said the European official.

Joseph Daul also specified that in the Republic of Moldova it was necessary to look for people who could assume responsibility for the changes required in the justice system. "You know better than me what corruption means and what pressure it puts on people. If you succeed in this area, then Moldova will live better," said the EPP president.

"This new change in Chisinau brings a lot of hope, but also generates expectations. You must know that 100 days with a new government cannot change what has been destroyed and corrupted for years. The fight against corruption, an independent justice system and respect for the rule of law requires much work, from many directions," added Joseph Daul.

The European official reiterates that the Government has the difficult mission to put back Moldova on the right road.
