Acting Minister of Education Maia Sandu said the negative attitude of the Party of Communists to the reforms in education can be explained by the fact that the PCRM lays emphasis on the dissatisfaction of a part of society even if they realize that these measures are necessary. In an interview for the newspaper “Ziarul de Grada”, Maia Sandu said it’s normal for the opposition to criticize the government, but this criticism wound have been more credible if it had referred to the problematic areas that experienced no positive changes, IPN reports.

“The fact that the PCRM does not like me is rather a compliment for me and this does not surprise me. It is a proof of consistency as, after a number of attempts to dismiss me, the Communists do not support a Cabinet that includes me,” said the acting minister.

Maia Sandu also said that she never discussed with the Communist leader since she was invested as minister of education. “It’s not about misunderstandings, but rather about an ambition and an attempt to satisfy one’s vainglory. After so many attempts to dismiss me, which were rather humiliating for them, and after the multiple compromises that they had to make over the last few weeks, the Communists expect a small ‘sacrifice’ on the part of those who ask them to support the government,” she stated.

Maia Sandu noted she will accept to hold the post until she enjoys political support for doing reforms. Speaking about the Association Agreement with the EU, she said it’s hard to understand how a government without majority support in Parliament can implement this accord, but it’s not yet impossible to do this. According to her, even if the government included the PL, it would be hard to do reforms because some of the measures contained in the agreement directly affect some of the politicians and because the implementation of some reforms requires a lot of courage and sacrifice. “I want to believe that not everything is lost yet. A coalition between the PLDM, PD and PL is still possible,” said Maia Sandu.

She stated that a new government will be voted in soon, regardless of its plan of action and its composition, because some of the parliamentary parties are afraid of early elections.

Earlier, the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin said the party didn’t vote for the Cabinet proposed by Iurie Leanca because they could not accept its nominal composition. He also invoked the presence of Maia Sandu in the Cabinet, whose dismissal the Communists tried to obtain for several times.
