President-elect Maia Sandu will not ask for a meeting with the de-facto Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselskii. According to Maia Sandu, she now does not see the necessity of such an initiative. The issued was developed in the talk show “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel, IPN reports.

“I will work to solve citizens’ problems when these problems appear. I will meet with people who respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Maia Sand.

Also, the President-elect said she will make effort to stop smuggling from the region.

“I will continue the fight against the schemes of corruption and contraband that I started when I served as Prime Minister. You remember that we managed to fully stop cigarette smuggling during those five months and you will see this in international missions’ reports. There was no cigarette smuggling in the period. Now cigarette smuggling through the region returned to the volume of 5 billion pieces a year. Why? Because someone earns money this way. We will work a lot in this regard,” noted Maia Sandu.

As to her position on the presence of Russian troops in the region, she said the Republic of Moldova had a common position during all the times – that the troops should be withdrawn from the country’s territory.

“All the governments in the Republic of Moldova had the position that the Operational Group of Russian Forces should pull out and the munitions should also be pulled out. I will maintain the same position as it is very important to respect the territorial integrity and independence of the country,” stated Maia Sandu.

As to the inhabitants from the left side of the Nistru who voted for her, Maia Sandu said these citizens want a change. “They all suffer because of poverty, because of migration as the relatives leave the country in search of a better life,” she concluded.
