“On the Press Freedom Day, we should remind the authorities about their commitment to strengthen the independence of the media that they assumed through the Association Agreement signed with the European Union. I refer especially to the adoption of a new Broadcasting Code, which will include provisions that will eliminate the concentration of the media in the hands of one or several politicians, businessmen,” Maia Sandu wrote on a social networking site.

The politician calls on the authorities to renounce the practices of limiting access to public information and to ensure authentic transparency in their work, including trough open data. Finally, she voices hope that the media pluralism and high quality journalism will extend and will have a long life in the Republic of Moldova.
