The new President of the European Council António Cost expressed the European Union's firm support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova. During a meeting in Brussels with President Maia Sandu, the official reaffirmed the commitment to support initiatives that will bring direct benefits to the Moldovan citizens, IPN reports.

President Sandu said that for the next period, they agreed to start, as soon as possible, the implementation of the EU-supported economic growth program. Also, the negotiations for joining the Single Payments Area are to be completed in 2025 so that the Moldovans will no longer pay taxes for transactions with EU banks. The full abolition of roaming charges was also mentioned.

"Together with António Costa and the European Union, we are on the right track, and Moldova will continue to progress and build a better future for all its citizens," said Maia Sandu, quoted in a press release of the President’s Office.

António Costa took office as President of the European Council on 1 December.
