Moldova continues to work on its economic stability and improve its infrastructure and to do reforms to improve the investment climate. The Republic of Moldova – Republic of Austria business forum comes to strengthen the ties between the two states, President Maia Sandu stated in the event. The official called on the Austrian investors to invest in Moldova, IPN reports.

President Sandu told the representatives of Austrian companies with businesses in Moldova that she appreciates the investments made by them and hopes that even more Austrian companies will open companies in Moldova, which is ready to fully integrate into the European economy. Gradually, the laws are approximated with the EU’s legislation. 60% of the country’s exports already go to the EU. Moldova offers tangible opportunities to foreign investors. The labor market is open. The salaries are competitive. The quality of education is being improved. Effort is made to ensure energy independence, which is very important for businesses. “Invest in a country that aims to become part of the EU by the end of this decade,” urged Maia Sandu.

Attending the event, the President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen said that Austria and Moldova are connected by a very strong partnership. Austria supports Moldova on its European path and will not wait until Moldova becomes a full-fledged member of the EU. It is already among the top ten countries that invest in industry, agriculture, insurance and other sectors in Moldova. Economic development, environmental protection and climate should go hand in hand and this is the main challenge and also the current opportunity.

Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Dumitru Alaiba noted that the EU market offers economic development opportunities. Moldova has the best guarantees for what it is developing at the moment. It goes to a facilitated tax model in the IT sector. There are no taxes for employees and employers. A work permit is not needed for becoming employed in Moldova. This way the country can be a good opportunity for investments.

In 2022, there were 94 companies with Austrian capital with a share capital exceeding 526 million lei in Moldova.
