Vladimir Baldovici will be dismissed from the post of director of the Public Property Agency in the June 20 meeting of the Cabinet, Prime Minister Maia Sandu announced through a social networking site. The Premier requested the institution to identify legal methods for suspending the started privatization processes, IPN reports.

According to Maia Sandu, even if it was announced publicly that an inquiry will be launched into the committed illegalities, the representatives of the former regime who hold yet office continue to appropriate public property.

She noted that an announcement concerning the holding of a commercial contest to privatize a number of publicly-owned facilities was placed on the website of the Public Property Agency on June 14, not long after the Democratic Party announced its withdrawal from power. Among the facilities is the Moldova Sanatorium situated in Truskavets, Ukraine, at a price that seems to be much lower than the real one.

In reaction, Vladimir Baldovici, on the website of the Public Property Agency, wrote that the given facilities earlier were put up for privatization for multiple times, including the Moldova Sanatorium. The commercial privatization contests are planned by the Government beforehand and are anticipated by assessments and preparation of the package of documents. The publication of the announcement of the contest is the final stage of a common interdepartmental effort.

Vladimir Baldovici said the investigation into the privatization processes should cover the period starting with 1996 so as to obtain an objective picture of the privatization process in Moldova and to be able to end the noxious practices.

On June 18, Parliament decided to set up a commission that will probe the privatization and concession of public property starting with 2013. Among the privatization transactions that will be analyzed are those concerning Banca de Economii, the Chisinau International Airport, tobacco company Tutun CTC, Bus Terminals etc.
