The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) Maia Sandu said the talks on the nomination of a common candidate for the presidential elections are on the last 100 meters, while the chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca considers the talks actually didn’t take place. Contradictory statements on the issue were made in the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Maia Sandu said the results of the two polls based on which the decision will be taken will become available at the start of next week. “The candidate will be selected based on three criteria, the main one being the estimated number of votes that this will gain. Our goal is to replace the ruling political class,” she stated.

Iurie Leanca in the same program said the talks didn’t take place in fact. That’s why he decided to withdraw and to run by himself. “There were held some discussions; nothing serious. No concrete platform was discussed. It’s hard to speak about a common candidate in the absence of a common platform. For me, Nastase (Andrei Nastase, the leader of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA), e.n.) is not the man of reforms and European integration. I think the same about those who are behind the PPPDA - Victor and Viorel Topa, Veaceslav Platon and others,” he stated.

In reply, Maia Sandu requested that Iurie Leanca should provide evidence showing that Platon is behind those from the PPPDA.

This April, the leaders of the PPPDA, PAS, PPEM and then of the Liberal Democratic Party opened talks to identify a common candidate for President. At the end of July, Iurie Leanca withdrew and signed a cooperation agreement with the ruling coalition, on the European integration segment. Later, the PPEM fielded him for the office of President of Moldova.
