“I reiterated our position concerning the relaucnh of a pragmatic and constructive dialogue that will be in the interests of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” President Maia Sandu stated after the meeting with Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, who paid a short visit to Moldova in the evening of August 11, IPN reports.

According to President Sandu, the meeting centered on the export of Moldovan agricultural products to the Russian market, the new contract for the supply of natural gas to Moldova and also the Transnistrian settlement process. “I reaffirmed the position of the Republic of Moldova as regards the relaucnh of the settlement process so as to identify an exclusively peaceful solution, using political and diplomatic instruments within the existing negotiation format, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country within its internationally recognized borders,” Maia Sandu posted on Facebook.

According to Maia Sandu, the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation are ready to broadly discuss an agenda full of issues of interest to the states and the citizens of the two countries, including by intensifying bilateral contacts.

For his part, Dmitry Kozak told the journalists that after the Government was confirmed and an element of stability appeared, they agreed to discuss problems from the bilateral agenda. “The discussion was constructive and warm. We agreed to cooperate and right tomorrow to start a dialogue on all the subjects that generate concern to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation,” stated the Russian official.

He noted that the Russian side was asked to cooperate in areas related to the Transnistrian settlement process, disposal of munitions whose period of validity expired, trade, lifting of particular restrictions imposed on Russian exporters and on Moldovan exporters and also the supply of gas that necessitates a dialogue, as he considers.

In another development, Dmitry Kozak said that if a preliminary agreement is reached at inter-ministerial level, the meeting of Maia Sandu and Vladimir Putin will definitely take place.
