The leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, who is running in the presidential elections, considers the students’ right to vote is being violated. In a news conference, Maia Sandu said it’s clear that the Democrats, Socialists and Communists do not want the young people to vote, IPN reports.

The politician noted that the Democrat, Socialist and Communist MPs didn’t want to accept for examination a bill submitted by MP Valeriu Giletski, which allows the students to vote in the settlement where they study, regardless of their place of residence, by presenting an own responsibility statement. Such a procedure was implemented in the parliamentary elections of 2014.

“We can understand why the PDM does not accept this. They want to strengthen oligarchy. But I do not understand the motivation of the Socialists, who say they are in the opposition. Are they afraid of the students?” asked the candidate. She requested Parliament to review its decision.

Maia Sandu said that of all the social sections, the young people are most determined to leave the country if the situation does not improve. Discouraging them from voting will be an additional reason for them to leave Moldova.

The PAS leader noted that the young people can decide the country’s future and called on them to go home by October 29 and take the certificate that enables them to vote where they study.
