The common candidate of the center-right opposition in the presidential elections Maia Sandu describes the withdrawal of the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu from the electoral race as a desperate gesture that confirms that Igor Dodon is the candidate wanted by Vlad Plahotniuc. According to Maia Sandu, first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc feared that the people’s vote will show the insignificant support enjoyed by the power’s candidate Marian Lupu, IPN reports.

“Thus, the PDM decided to improve its image by declaring this false support for me. With this poisoned apple, Plahotniuc wants to actually help Dodon. The goal of Plahotniuc’s support for me and my promotion by his media holding is to only discredit me,” Maia Sandu wrote on a social networking site.

Maia Sandu considers the people will realize what is there behind this dirty game and will understand that Vlad Plahotniuc and Marian Lupu are cowards. “Neither I nor the people in Moldova need this support of

Plahotniuc. The people will know to make the correct choice,” wrote Maia Sandu.

The Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu earlier today announced that he decided to withdraw from the presidential race because Maia Sandu has, according to polls, bigger chances of beating Socialist candidate Igor Dodon in the runoff elections.
