President Maia Sandu denied the rumors about an eventual dismissal of Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița. She said she approves of the work done by the Premier who managed, during a short period of time, to assert herself at international level and to secure the trust of the country’s development partners. President Sandu said that during the first 100 days of its mandate, the Government efficiently handled the pandemic and energy crises, IPN reports.

President Sandu said there is absolutely no intention to replace Natalia Gavrilița as head of the Government.

“She is not a sacrifice Premier. She copes well. Natalia Gavrilița is very dedicated to her job. She is increasingly respected at international level and in the community of investors. She had a very good performance in London, at the meeting with potential investors. I consider things will go very well under her management,” Maia Sandu stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

President Sandu said that after taking over, the current Government has been preoccupied with the building of the team and continues to look for upright specialists for different governmental posts. Furthermore, the Executive didn’t have too much time at its disposal for adjustment as it had to cope with the COVID-19 crisis and the energy crisis from the very first days of its mandate.

“Production decreased due to the pandemic and we witnessed economic decline. Now the demand increases, but the supply is lower than the demand and this generates inflation at the global level. The Republic of Moldova is very much affected by the rise in prices at international level. The Government cannot influence this process. These rises do not depend on the processes in the Republic of Moldova. What we must do is to increase incomes. But this cannot be done overnight,” stated Maia Sandu.

The official also said that the justice sector reform remains the key priority of the current government. The external assessment of prosecutors and judges is expected to lead to the ridding of the system of corrupt elements. The assessment process should start as swiftly as possible, but the document is to be adopted by Parliament during the next few months. An international monitoring mission and an assessment commission will be created for assessing the integrity and professionalism of prosecutors and judges.
