President Maia Sandu said that April 7, 2009 celebrates the maturity of the people who will never accept again to be swallowed by dictatorship. 14 years ago the people clearly chose another road, of democracy, of respected rights, of the European Union. “Our duty is to take revenge for the death and torture among young people by a real justice sector reform,” the official noted in a message transmitted today, when it is celebrated the 14th anniversary of the April 2009 events, IPN reports.

“We then stepped onto a path that we all believed will be faster, but the years that followed saw other attempts to suffocate democracy and our future. But the citizens of the Republic of Moldova always knew in what state they want to live. They clearly saw who works for democracy and who plots against it,” said President Sandu, noting that the people showed by actions and a firm attitude that they do not accept dictatorship.

According to the official, the corrupt persons from justice use today the pretext of the independence of justice to hide their abuses, but no judge and no prosecutor can today erase the enormous print left in 2009. Moldova deserves to have a justice system that serves the people and Moldova will have such a justice system. “We can yet face obstacles, but we will not deviate from our path. We are firmly determined to do the reforms and changes we planned, to build a European country. Our citizens – children, grownups, young and older people – have the right to live in safety, alongside other states with the same values and aspirations,” concluded Maia Sandu.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu also came with a message, saying that 14 years ago, on April 7, 2009, thousands of people, most of whom were young, changed the course of history. They sought freedom and democracy. “Over the last few years, we have seen how important it is to live freely and in democracy. For the purpose, we will do our best so that we ultimately form part of a free world, with a European Moldova. Regrettably, the truth about April 7, 2009 and the crimes committed then hasn’t been discovered. This is additional confirmation of the fact that the justice sector reform needs to be implemented till the end,” stated the Speaker.

The Parliament Building this week is hosting an exhibition entitled “Borders” that centers on the April 7, 2009 events. The visitors can see things saved from fire during those events, pictures showing the April 7, 2009 events and also works made by multimedia artist Valeria Barbas. Later, the exhibits will be transferred to the National Museum of History of Moldova.
