The ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu will also hold the post of ombudswoman, on an interim basis, until Parliament names a new person to this post. A decision to this effect was adopted by Parliament on February 4, IPN reports.
In the sitting, the legislative body adopted the draft decision on the end of the ombudsperson’s mandate, by which this post was declared vacant.
A special parliamentary commission will be set up to organize the public contest to select candidates for the post of ombudsperson.
The ombudsman’s mandate ended earlier in connection with the death of Mihai Cotorobai on January 6, 2021.
