The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said he does not exclude that the denigrating actions aimed at him and his party might be directed by Prime Minister and chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party Vlad Filat as well as the Communist Opposition. Marian Lupu explained he is the target of criticism because he has very good chances of becoming head of state, Info-Prim Neo reports “I will run in the presidential elections. My rather good chances can become even better and this thing poses a major threat to somebody,” Marian Lupu told a news conference on August 12. According to the Democrat leader, his rating is high even if he has held no state post during 12 months and used no administrative resources. Marian Lupu also said that he waits for the real coordinators of the denigration campaign to come out. “Vlad Filat does not probably like that I’m at the top of voters’ preferences as he is one of the most important contenders for the post of President,” he said. The Democrat leader stressed that the groundless accusations made against him are a challenge to the member parties of the governing coalition because the agreements reached one year ago, when the Alliance for European Integration was formed, are not observed. Former presidential adviser Sergiu Mocanu asserted recently that the PDM is financed by the controversial businessman Vlad Plahotniuc. According to Mocanu, Vlad Plahotniuc has his men in the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, who intimidate businessmen.
