The leaders of the Democratic Party (PDM), Marian Lupu and Dumitru Diacov, are optimistic that the political dialogue with the PCRM will continue. At the same time, they assure that the PDM maintains its position and will not betray the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), Info-Prim Neo reports.
The statements were made after Marian Lupu held a meeting with the PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin on October 28. Both Marian Lupu and Dumitru Diacov refused to say what conditions the PDM and the PCRM imposed on each other. They said only that during the discussions that lasted for 40 minutes they conferred on the economic, social and political situation in the country. After the meeting, the Communist MP Mark Tkachuk said the interlocutors reached no agreement.
“I hope that more such meetings will take place, maybe not between party leaders, but with the Communist MPs who want to vote for the AEI's candidate,” said Dumitru Diacov, the president of honor of the PDM.
Marian Lupu said at the meeting they also discussed the two projects submitted earlier by the PCRM – the statement on the political principles for reestablishing civil unity and peacefully solving the Transnistrian dispute, and the statement on the anti-crisis policy and measures aimed at stabilizing the social and economic situation.
The two projects have not been discussed by the Parliament as the Communists asked, but Marian Lupu said that as a candidate for the presidency he supports them.
The President of Moldova is elected by the vote of 61 of the 101 MPs. The AEI has only 53 seats.
