The Liberal-Democrats' attacks on the Democratic Party is rather a diversion to delay the signing of an agreement among the Eurointegration Alliance parties for the creation of local-level coalitions and distribution of district head posts, stated Democratic Party president Marian Lupu at a press conference on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu says that this explains why Lib-Dem leader Vlad Filat chose to go on a business trip abroad now, in a critical period during which the freshly elected district councils hold their inaugural meetings. Lupu said that his party prepared a draft agreement that was supposed to be discussed at the Alliance's meeting on June 27, but which was postponed. Marian Lupu thinks that one of the reasons for the recent Lib-Dems' attacks is the refusal of the Democrat representatives in the Cabinet, at its latest meeting, to endorse the secret adoption of a concept of reform in education. The document involves the risk for thousands of teachers to be laid off and this is why such risks should be discussed publicly, explained Marian Lupu. The Democrat leader suggested that, now that the local elections have balanced the ratio of political forces, and the Venice Commission provided recommendations which indicate that a solution can be found to elect the president, someone could be upset by the appearance of these conditions to overcome the political crisis. However, Marian Lupu promised to make an effort and live up to the high responsibilities of an acting President and a Speaker, and called for calm to overcome tensions within the Alliance. On Monday, a group of Liberal-Democrat MPs criticized the Democratic faction in Parliament for obstructing the progress of the Lib-Dems' legislative proposals, accusing them of “feigning reform”.
