The leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu considers that the formal round of talks that is to be held in Vilnius might have taken place without Prime Minister Vlad Filat meeting the leader of the Transnistrian region Igor Smirnov. In the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel, Marian Lupu said there may be pursued hidden goals, maybe related to business, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”It is hard to say as we don’t know why this meeting was to take place right now. Maybe it was held in the run-up to the negotiations that are to take place in Vilnius at the end of November. I think this round might have taken place without this meeting or there are hidden interests. From my viewpoint, such meetings can bring advantages to Mister Smirnov, who is running for the region’s ‘president’, but I hope this will not happen,” said Marian Lupu. He stressed that there may be pursued personal goals, event related to business. “There is a wide range of reasons why the two met. From the official position, this is not the most indicated period for meetings,” said the Democratic leader. Vlad Filat met Igor Smirnov at the OSCE head office in Bender on November 21. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov, Deputy Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic and Deputy Minister of the Interior Iurie Cheptanaru. Vladimir Yastrebchyak and Vadim Krasnoselskii represented the Transnistrian side at the meeting.
