Romania will continue to provide solid support to the Republic of Moldova in projects aimed at strengthening energy security, advancing on the path of European integration. “We are fully committed to strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership so as to achieve progress in the Republic of Moldova’s European integration, and to supporting Chisinau in advancing reform processes,” Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminița Odobescu said at a press conference given together with her Moldovan counterpart Mihai Popșoi, IPN reports.
The Romanian official stated that Moldova’s reform efforts are visible and appreciated, while the Moldovan authorities show courage and political will. She assured of the continuation of the commitments assumed for the direct benefit of the citizens. “Romania will continue to firmly support Chisinau throughout this process. I am not referring here only to the direct and permanent support at political level for promoting and supporting at European level the process of integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union. We also consider technical support between the responsible authorities in various fields, depending on needs,” said Luminița Odobescu.
She noted that Chisinau’s ties with Brussels are stronger and Romania is there to support their permanent strengthening. “We do everything possible together with our partners so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova have the chance of prosperity, freedom, dignity in a stable environment,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
“We maintain close, intense communication with Romania in a difficult geopolitical context caused by the Russian Federation’s unjust war against Ukraine – a war that directly affects both our states, but also the entire region. The past two years have been a great challenge for the Republic of Moldova, but also an opportunity to positively transform itself on the path of European integration. In this process, we have benefited from massive assistance from Romania in development and building the resilience of our state,” said Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova.
Romania remains Moldova’s top trading partner and heads the rankings of the main investors. The volume of investments and the number of Romanian enterprises in the Republic of Moldova have increased. In the energy sector, Moldova and Romania in December 2023 signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of gas and electricity interconnection projects.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi is paying a working visit to Bucharest during February 5-6, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart Luminița Odobescu.
