Luis O’Neill calls on Chisinau authorities to make sure laws are properly implemented

The head of the OSCE Mission in the Republic of Moldova, Luis O’Neill, believes the Moldovan Parliament elaborates important and good laws, yet their proper implementation should be assured. O’Neill declared on Wednesday, September 20, during a press conference that the Mission has and will continue to help the Moldovan authorities in the reform process. The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova elaborated a series of important decision in the fields of judiciary, election, mass-media freedom reform. Other important laws, regarding the decentralization and reform of the local public administration passed the first reading. Luis O’Neill appreciated these reforms, but mentioned they will be useless until implemented in the proper way. He required the Moldovan authorities to assure the new laws are implemented according to the European standards and will cause changes in fields like independence of the judicial system, freedom of the press and local autonomy. Luis O’Neill is the head of the OSCE Mission in Moldova since August.
