Thanks to support from Moldova’s development partners, the residents of Lozova commune in Straseni district will have a modern water supply and sewer system, said Lozova mayor Viorel Jardan during an IPN livescast discussing the EU4Moldova: Local Communities Program.

Clean Water for All is one of the many projects implemented under the Program. By 2025, over 19,000 people in the villages of Pănășești, Lozova, Zubrești and Sireți in Strășeni district will enjoy improved water supply services as a result.

“Traditionally, people in our commune still use water from springs and wells. We have a spring that supplies an entire area of the commune with water, plus public institutions. It’s safe to drink, as we periodically take samples for analysis, but the quantity is limited. The second category of water is technical water”, said Jardan.

The mayor says that thanks to the Clean Water for All project, public institutions in Lozova will be connected to the water supply and sewage system. Also, the local children will receive training on the efficient management of water resources and the impact of bad waste management habits.

The mayor of Lozova noted that Clean Water for All will also benefit people in neighboring communities. They can already enjoy the benefits of a wastewater treatment plant built recently in Lozova.

“The neighboring communities will also benefit. Some will benefit directly, others indirectly. Sewage systems are still a rarity in much of rural Moldova. We recently commissioned the wastewater treatment plant in the town of Lozova. Now we are working to make this station a collection point for household water from four localities. We had a period when each locality tried to build its treatment facility, but we had to admit that this solution was not feasible”, Viorel Jardan added.

The livecast was the seventh installment of the Benefits of EU Accession Series, run by IPN with the support of the Soros Moldova Foundation.
