“Lower Danube” members strengthen cross-border partnership

Members of the “Lower Danube” Euroregion are to work out a common strategy for the zone’s development, including Ismail, Reni, Chilia cities (Ukraine) and Cahul and Cantemir raions (Moldova). According to a resolution, approved by the participants at the conference on the mentioned issue, held within the frameworks of a project on strengthening cross border cooperation in the Euroregion, in Ismail, representatives of the public local administration and civil society from Chisinau, Cahul and Cantemir raions, Galati County and Odessa region decided upon concrete cooperation projects. Via analyzing the perspectives of Ukraine-Moldova-Romania cooperation development, parties established as domains of particular interest the development of business, improvement of the ecologic situation, transports and communication, countering criminality. According to the resolution, the development of transport and communication will be acheved by building ferry complexes for passing the river (Ismail-Tulcea or Isaccea–Orlovca), organizing the route Reni–Galati with a continuance of the Ismail-Reni–Galati–Constanta route, as well as organization of river communication on the Reni–Galati route. The resolution also provides the efficient utilization of Ismail-Cahul-Galati airports via creating and developing air routes within the Euroregion, analyzing the possibility of re-launching activity on the Basarabeasca-Artiz railroad sector. In the economic domain the parts decided that economic missions, fairs, exhibitions, commercial exchanges are to be organized. In Galati, “Basarabia” wholesale market and “Basarabia” commodity exchange Association are to be created. In what concerns ecology, participants decided upon monitoring the environment pollution sources and prevention of exceptional situations in the Euroregion. The Conference on Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation in the Lower Danube Euroregion has been organized by the Ismail Fund for Support to Entrepreneurship from Ukraine, in partnership with the INRECO Conflict Resolution Institute (Chisinau), Cross-Border Cooperation and European integration (Cahul), Cross-Border Cooperation Regional Agency (Reni, Ukraine), Fund for Promoting Small and Medium-size Enterprises (Galati, Romania).
