Most of the children and adolescents who steal and lie come from families where there is no love, affection and communication, specialists of psychological rehabilitation center “Armonie” find, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The children who do not find understanding and love within their families try “to but it” from colleagues, fiends and other surrounding people. According to the director of Armonie center, Lucia Savca, one of the methods to make friends is to offer them presents or candies. And children resort to stealing money to buy those gifts.
Lately more and more adolescents steal mobile phones and other precious objects that they sell against a price ten times smaller than the real one. They “buy affection” with the money they thus make. About10% of the children monthly addressing the center for psychological assistance show such behavioral deviations, as they are mostly isolated in class-rooms, don’t have friends, show an inferiority complex. Lucia Savca says in case a child is not loved by his parents, he cannot integrate into other groups either. This behavior is explained through the fact that the child makes a bad image of oneself.
Maria Varlan, a psychologist at the Armonie center, consider that stealing and lying represent behavioral deviations as grave as alcohol and or drug addiction. The reasons differ. According to Maria Varlan, stealing is a response of the child to traumatizing situations in his life. Children mostly resort to stealing or lying when they want to assert themselves, to be in the center of attention. On the other hand, children lie when they want to avoid a punishment or to hide the reason for which they missed the school or have not done their homework.
Lucia Savca, the director of the Armonie center, has opined that stealing is not a disease, as many teachers and psychological counselor describe it. It initially develops at home and turns into stealing in large proportions, becoming a danger for society. The most severe problem is not paying adequate and timely attention to prevent the development of a satisfaction feeling when the child starts stealing or lying.
Psychologists think that the most effective method to make a child recognize he steals or lies is to talk to him sincerely, without applying violence, without blaming him. More attention shall be paid to the development within a prosperous environment, without anxiety and aggression. In this regard, specialists from the Armonie center plan more seminars to train teachers from Chisinau to detect children with behavioral deviations in time.
