Representatives of local public authorities from different districts of Moldova continue to learn from France’s experience in different areas. This time, the France – Moldova Decentralized Cooperation and Local Development Forum will center on ecological problems, tourism development and mobilization for local development. Details about the forum that is held on October 4-5 were presented in a news conference at IPN.

The Agency for Monument Inspection and Restauration forms part of the piloting committee for holding the event that is organized by the Embassy of France in Moldova. The Agency’s director Ion Ștefăniță said the forum brings together mayors and councilors from practically all the country’s districts, from the north to the south. The cultural heritage is an important aspect of the Moldovan-French cooperation. France remains the best example of how the cultural heritage should be kept and developed and the Embassy of France supports Moldova in this regard through different partnerships.

Martine Zejgman, attaché for cooperation at the Embassy, said the goal of this event is to bring the local elected officials from France closer to those from Moldova. At the current edition, the participants will discuss the public services provided by the local authorities and the living conditions of citizens. The Moldovan-French cooperation envisions common projects, experience exchange and fact-finding visits. Young professionals working in the local administration are offered scholarships to study in France. These are to implement the studied practices when they return home.

The Dubăsari District Council helps organize the event  together with the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova. The head of Dubăsari district Grigore Polichinski noted the forum has a special significance for the local public authorities that need the experience of such countries as France. France’s experience can be useful to Moldova in the sustainable development of localities by promoting decentralization, information technologies, democracy and local self-government.

The third France – Moldova Decentralized Cooperation and Local Development Forum will take place in Chisinau during two days, on October 4 and 5. On this occasion, the Embassy of France will award the best Moldovan-French cooperation practices. The event starts in the evening of October 4, being hosted by the children’s center “Prietenia” in Coșnița village of Dubăsari district.
