The mayoralty is open to cooperate with social organisations wishing to take care of homeless dogs of the capital, the interim mayor of the municipality of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu, said during the direct telephone talk, 15 March, organised by the newspaper Capitala. Ursu mentioned that the mayoralty is ready even to support the activity of these organisations and to allot lands and construction materials for building asylums for homeless dogs. According to him, the mayoralty cannot take care of these dogs, as it needs many means, in case if citizens require their slipping and transporting to specialised centres. The mayoralty’s efforts are directed towards financing the activities of supporting the old men and homeless persons of the capital, and dogs’ care shall be done by interested social organisations or civil society concerned about them. The majority of calls of the direct phone line regarded citizens’ concern about homeless dogs of municipality Chisinau, people being concerned about “inhuman” actions that the local public authorities could apply in order to reduce their number. In the same time, it was made a proposal on behalf of the social organisation Avangarda regarding the care of homeless dogs of the municipality of Chisinau, and its leadership required a meeting with the interim mayor regarding this issue. Vasile Ursu answered to citizens that different case of poisoning or killing of the dogs by municipal services, which he was informed about, did not take place in fact. „The mayoralty does not have sweepers of the streets, but not dog killers. Officially, nobody within the mayoralty ordered dogs’ killing,” Ursu mentioned, who admitted that some case could take place, at inhabitants own will. The mayor recognised that in Chisinau there is a great number of homeless dogs, but this fact is motivated by that there is not law or decision of municipal council stipulating the actions of local authorities regarding the control of homeless dogs.
