The local general elections in Moldova will take place on October 20, 2019. The proposal was accepted by a unanimous vote of the MPs, IPN reports.
The four-year terms in office of the local elected officials expired and new local elections should be thus held, said MP Vasile Bolea, one of the bill authors.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sîrbu stated the local elections can be held earlier, at end-August or in September, as there are no reasons for allowing the mayors to serve ad interim for almost half a year.
