The local general elections ended with the runoff vote in Topala village of Cimislia district on July 12. The mayoral elections here were won by the Liberal Democratic Party’s candidate Nadejda Costas, IPN reports.

According to the preliminary results presented by the Central Election Commission, Nadejda Costas polled 238 votes, while her opponent Ivan Gribinet, of the Democratic Party, won 236 votes. The voter turnout was almost 55%.

On June 14, the voting process in Topola was interrupted because a group of candidates for local councilor devastated the polling place in protest at the fact that persons from other settlements were allowed to vote there. The elections in the village were rerun on June 28.

All the mayors and councilors of all the levels were chosen as a result of the local general elections. The local elected officials are now forming governing coalitions in villages, communes, towns and municipalities and in districts. The district heads are yet to be elected.
