The local elected authorities become more responsible in adopting decisions if they are trained in the area of local public administration. This is the conclusion of a workshop held to assess the results of a campaign within which local elected authorities received training. The campaign was organized by the Center “Contact” within the project “Domestic Election Monitoring and Voter Education in Moldova – Strengthening of Capacities and International Networking”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The aim of the campaign was to strengthen the capacities of the local public authorities in 25 settlements. Within the campaign, in September – November 2011, there were held two-day training seminars for about 600 local councilors, mayors, civil servants and civil society leaders. They were informed about the functioning principles of the local public administration, management of local public finances and other issues.
Project manager Nicolae Panfil, secretary of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, said the aim of the campaign was principally achieved. Beneficiaries of the training campaign were invited to the workshop to discuss the positive experience and the shortcomings noticed during the campaign.
Eugen Furculita, adviser to the Government’s secretary general, said the executive is aware that there are drawbacks in the work of the local public authorities and is ready to examine any types of suggestions.
The conclusions of the training campaign and the recommendations made in the workshop will be presented to the central and local public authorities and will serve as aid for strengthening the cooperation between the NGO sector and the authorities.
The project “Domestic Election Monitoring and Voter Education in Moldova – Strengthening of Capacities and International Networking” is implemented by “Contact” Center within the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, with financial support from the EU Delegation to Moldova.
