A local councilor of Cimișeni village of Criuleni district said that on his insistence, after years of complaints and denouncing, criminal proceedings were instituted against the mayor of the locality over abuse of office and appropriation. However, no end result was achieved because mayor Valentina Pisarenco is on friendly terms with representatives of the police and the prosecution service. The councilor calls on the administration of the National Anticorruption Center and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office to intervene and investigate the purported illegalities committed by the mayor.

In a news conference staged by IPN, Ilie Cazac said that he went to the Criuleni Court and this annulled the ordinances by which prosecutors ordered not bring criminal proceedings against the mayor. The Appeals Court upheld the decision of the ordinary court after the prosecution appealed the decision.

In such conditions, on October 8, 2021, the prosecutors had to start a criminal case over abuse of office or abuse of power and appropriation. According to the councilor, no action had been taken by the Criuleni Prosecutor’s Office for months. As a result, he made approaches to the Prosecutor General’s Office to transfer the case and the acting prosecutor general in January 2022 ordered to move the case to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. But the case hasn’t been yet brought to an end. “In May 2022, we learned that one more criminal case against the mayor was started in 2017 over influence peddling. Five years have passed but the mayor feels fine and continues to steal wholesale,” stated Ilie Cazac said.

After the new NAC director was appointed, he made new approaches. He said he filed multiple complaints to the National Anticorruption Center, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Prosecutor General’s Office, but nothing has been done yet.

“Mister Rusu, I ask you to take measures as your employees do not react. I’m sick and tired of writing so many letters. I think all my letters reach not you, but your deputies and these do not inform you,” said the councilor. He called upon chief anticorruption prosecutor Viorica Dragalin to turn her attention to this case as this should be brought to an end.
