Initiatives to ensure the sustainable development of the city and to promote green energy started to be collected in the municipality of Chisinau as part of the project “Strategic Planning - Chisinau - Green City” (Green City Action Plan), IPN reports.

In the project launch event, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said the project is designed to transform Chisinau into a green city with a low energy consumption. The final goal is to maximally increase the use of renewable sources of energy.

The project “Strategic Planning - Chisinau - Green City” is financed in the framework of the program “Green Cities” that is supported financially by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. A sum of €10 million was allocated in 2016 in the form of a loan for improving energy efficiency.

Head of the EBRD Office in Moldova Angela Sax said Chisinau City is a green one, but should be even greener. This means being an eco-friendly city. “Chisinau, as other cities, faces many problems related to the environment: the air is polluted, there are traffic jams and there is insufficient free space. Today we launch an important initiative that is aimed at supporting the sustainable development of the city,” stated Angela Sax.
