Lithuania, the country that will assume the rotating OSCE chair in 2011, will make the settlement of the frozen conflicts one of its presidency's priorities, stated Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite at the OSCE Summit in Astana. “Some countries have showed how problematic the frozen conflicts can be. I believe our Organization (for Security and Co-operation in Europe) is able to offer assistance here, assistance with making progress in Moldova, Georgia and Nagorno Karabach”, the Lithuanian President was quoted by the news agency Kazakhstan Zhanalyktary, on its portal at www.newskaz.ru, as saying. Russia's President Dmitri Medvedev, who announced earlier he would stay in Astana for both days of the summit, December 1-2, left Kazakhstan yesterday. Furthermore, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Russia would not support the provisions related to the conflicts in Georgia in the final documents of the Summit. On the other hand, Armenia also said it could use its veto right in case of an unfavorable decision on the frozen conflict on its territory. Moldova is represented at the Summit by Victor Osipov, Minister for Reintegration Matters. The Summit in Astana brought together officials from 56 member countries and several dozens of international organizations. The Summit is the OSCE's first since the Istanbul Summit in 1999 and Kazakhstan is the first former Soviet nation to host one.
