Head of Parliament Igor Corman discussed in Vilnius the possibility of staging a Nordic-Baltic 8 Forum centering on the parliamentary dimension in Chisinau. The Nordic-Baltic 8 includes the three Baltic countries - Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and the five Nordic countries – Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Icelad, IPN reports.

The Speaker told a news conference that his colleagues from Lithuania and other countries assured him of their assistance in organizing this event in Chisinau. “Important European countries form part of this organization. This will enable us to integrate into the parliamentary dimension, to take a step forward in this direction,” said Igor Corman.

The main subjects discussed during the visit to Vilnius were the Moldovan-Lithuanian cooperation and the European integration agenda of Moldova in the context of the Eastern Partnership Summit of November, which will be hosted by the current holder of the EU presidency, Lithuania. “In conclusion, I can say that Moldova is supported by Lithuania in achieving its European objectives. The President of Lithuania set the Eastern Partnership as one of his priorities. Moldova is regarded as a success story here,” said Igor Corman.

He also said that Moldova can be optimistic about the results of the Vilnius Summit. “I refer to the possibility of initialing the Association Agreement, including the Free Trade Area Agreement. There was mentioned the progress made by Moldova in implementing the action plan on the liberalization of the visa regime,” he stated.
