List of Moldovan millionaires becomes shorter

Only 42 of the 187 persons who had incomes of over 1 million lei in 2008 remained in the 2009 list of millionaires, Info-Prim Neo reports. Nicolae Platon, the head of the State Main Tax Inspectorate, told a news conference that the list of millionaires for 2009 includes 95 new names. The highest amount declared was 7.3 million lei. “The aggregate incomes of the millionaires remained practically at the same level - 338 million lei in 2008 (33.8 million lei taxes) and 353.4 million lei in 2009 (32.2 million lei taxes). Asked if he was among the millionaires, Nicolae Platon said he was not in the list though he worked in business before coming to the Inspectorate. Nicolae Platon also said that the number of income statements is larger than last year, but the amount declared by private individuals is lower – 3.6 billion lei, as against 3.8 billion lei in 2008.
