The list of drugs compensated with money from the mandatory health insurance funds will be extended by 65 types of drugs to 140 common international names, IPN reports.

In accordance with the changes made by the Ministry of Health, children and persons younger than 18 will be entitled to compensated drugs. Until now, only the children up to five received such drugs. Besides the family doctor, the pediatrician will also be able to prescribe compensated medicines.

The procedure for obtaining compensated medicines by patients with ophthalmological and neurological diseases was simplified. These will not need to go to commissions for getting a conclusion for prescriptions. Also, the patients with cirrhosis and hepatitis will have access to ursodeoxycholic acid, which is now offered to persons suffering from similar diseases.

The period of validity of the prescription for a compensated drug will be increased from two to three months. The medicines will be released by the drugstores with which the National Health Insurance Company signed contracts. The Ministry of Health estimates that the drug compensation rate for adults will be 70%, while for children 100%.

Among the 65 added drugs are Amoxicillinum, Cefuroximum, Ambroxolum, Ademetioninum, Silymarinum, Papaverinum, Pancreatinum, Diclofenacumum, and Dexamethasonum. The full list can be viewed on www.ms.gov.md.
