The Association Agreement with the European Union represents an important step in the process of joining the area of European values by promoting and implementing reforms that will develop and modernize the country, said Deputy Head of Parliament Liliana Palihovici, of the Liberal Democratic Party. She stated that she will vote for the ratification of the Association Agreement and will make everything possible to convince the doubtful MPs of the benefits of this accord.
Within a survey carried out by IPN among lawmakers, Liliana Palihovici said the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU represents one of the first steps in the European integration process. This process, if it is in accordance with the Association Agreement, will directly contribute to modernizing Moldova and strengthening the rule of law.
According to Liliana Palihovici, the implementation of this accord will help improve the living standards and the quality of public services in education, healthcare and other national sectors and will strengthen the country’s security. There are also benefits related to the favoring of investments in public infrastructure and agriculture and in developing the energy sector.
The lawmaker added that the agreement will ensure Moldovan products’ full access to the EU market with approximately 500 million consumers. The export quotas on particular Moldovan fruit and vegetables to the EU will increase. In general, the benefits will become evident in the process of liberalizing trade in goods and services, reducing customs duties, removing technical and nontariff barriers, lifting the quantitative restrictions and adjusting Moldova’s legislation to the EU’s.
The Association Agreement with the European Union will be signed in Brussels on June 27. Afterward, it is to be ratified.
