The visit by the President of France Emmanuel Macron to Chisinau is a strong message of support for the European course of the Republic of Moldova and the reform agenda. This visit inspires confidence that in the near future Moldova will obtain the candidate country status, said MP PAS Lilian Carp. According to him, France and Romania are the main advocates of Chisinau in the European Union, IPN reports.
In Chisinau, the President of France said that the EU’s response to the application for EU membership submitted by the Republic of Moldova will be a clear one and will be accompanied by conditions. He insisted on the observance of the procedures by the Republic of Moldova in the Europeans integration process. The representatives of the government said that President Macron’s message inspires confidence that Moldova will soon obtain clear accession prospects.
“We have chances to obtain the candidate country status in the near future. France is the second country after Romania that helps the Republic of Moldova in this regard. Poland lobbies for Ukraine. The President of Poland said it openly that he will go to all the countries to plead the cause of Ukraine. In this context, I realize why President Iohannis decided to travel to Kyiv. He wants to make it clear that both of the states should go hand in hand. President Iohannis does his best for the Republic of Moldova to be accepted and to obtain the candidate country status,” PAS MP Lilian Carp stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
For his part, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” Veaceslav Berbeca said it is highly improbable that the EU will favor Moldova over the other states that filed applications for EU membership.
“We should look with optimism to the message of President Macron who said that he will be making effort to persuade other states to reach a consensus so that the Republic of Moldova obtains the accession candidate country status. France is one of the most important states in the EU and holds the Presidency of the Council of European Union. Each state that holds this presidency wants to come with a result at the end of the term. The supporting of our candidacy and of the candidacy of Ukraine can be such a result. In his speech, the President of France often noted that a balance is needed. This can be interpreted as a message according to which there are a number of states that want to enter the EU and the Republic of Moldova should not be advantaged in relation to these, which is we should follow the path followed by other states,” said Veaceslav Berbeca.
During the visit paid by the President of France Emmanuel Macron to Chisinau, there was signed a convention for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of tax evasion between Moldova and France, an agreement on the operations of the French Development Agency, Proparco and Expertise France Moldova and an agreement concerning the provision by the French Development Agency of a €15 million loan to Moldova.
