The role of the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) is to track down the entire network that Igor Gorgan built, said PAS MP Lilian Carp, commenting on the case of Moldova’s ex-chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan, who is suspected of links with the Russian intelligence services. Lilian Carp noted that the information disseminated by the press was known by the law enforcement agencies, but the SIS representatives aim to expose the entire network created by Gorgan, IPN reports.
According to an investigation conducted by The Insider, the former chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan, allegedly provided the representatives of the GRU (Russia’s Military Intelligence Service) with information about the political situation in the Republic of Moldova and the visits made by Ukrainian officials. The chairman of the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order Lilian Carp said that the SIS knew that Gorgan was a Russian informant, but withheld the information until the entire network is traced.
“There are many moles, no matter who is in power. These moles are periodically collected by the Russian Federation. The problem lies in the detection of these moles, and the main role is played by the Security and Intelligence Service. From what the SIS said, we understand that they knew this. They probably didn’t sound the alarm because they were monitoring the entire network that Gorgan had. When you know the key character, you can monitor the connection or network they build to gain information. Here the SIS must come up with more information, if there are details that it needs to highlight. But the work of the SIS should not be talked about on the microphone. The SIS had the role of exposing the entire network that Gorgan built,” Lilian Carp stated in the talk show “Resumé” on RliveTV channel.
He rejected any association of Igor Gorgan with the PAS, which was part of the PSRM-ACUM alliance. Carp noted that Igor Gorgan was named chief of the General Staff twice by ex-President Igor Dodon.
“He was appointed in 2016, and the decree was signed by the then President Igor Dodon. Then he was appointed in 2019, at the proposal of Voicu, who was Dodon’s minister, and Dodon signed the decree on his appointment. In both cases, Gorgan was appointed by President Dodon’s decree. He was proposed by Minister of Defense Voicu. Voicu was Dodon’s man and the decree was signed by Dodon, who had information from the SIS about who this person is,” said the chairman of the parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order.
On Tuesday, President Maia Sandu signed a decree to withdraw the state awards conferred on the former chief of the General Staff Igor Gorgan, namely the “Military Merit” Medal and the “Faith to the Fatherland” Order.
