MP Lilian Carp, chairman of the National Security Committee, has revealed details from the meeting between presidential adviser Dorin Recean and the de facto leader of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselski. According to the PAS lawmaker, during the meeting it was agreed that the Rybnitsa Steel Works will continue to operate as usual for a month in exchange for a good, albeit short-term, deal on electricity supply.
“Security risks have been addressed. The meeting between Recean and Krasnoselski was held for the purpose of preparing the agenda for the visit of OSCE representatives to the Republic of Moldova, who will visit the Transnistrian region, as well. Energy matters were also addressed. In particular, a one-month deal has been agreed for electricity supplies from the left bank of the Nistru, at about the same price as before. There is only a slight increase of $6. This will help us avoid retail price surges”, Carp told a talk show on RliveTV.
“However, some concessions regarding the Steel Works have been made in return, also for the duration of one month. It has been agreed that the environmental agencies of the Republic of Moldova will inspect the Steel Works and issue the required authorizations. The plant has been operating without an environmental permit for three months now, and it has been agreed that it will continue to carry on as before for one month more. In return, we got electricity supply at the old price”, added the lawmaker.
On Friday, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița announced that direct negotiations with the Kuchurgan Power Plant resulted in a deal to buy electricity “at the most discounted price possible” for the next month, of $59.5 per MWh, which is $6 up on the current price.
