Even if the assemblies, public events and other rallies can be banned during the state of emergency, the government will not prevent the Shor Party from protesting, said the head of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order Lilian Carp. According to the MP, all the citizens have the right to protest and an eventual attempt by the government to ban demonstrations in front of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Palace can generate a confrontation between the protesters and the police, IPN reports.

Representatives of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) said there is evidence showing that the protesters in central Chisinau are paid by the Shor Party. However, the people will be allowed to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s actions without being intimidated.

“We know that the people who protest are paid and brought to protest but the right to protest is a fundamental one. Even such a person like Shor is entitled to protest. This does not yet mean that he should not be held accountable for what he did. Everyone should answer in accordance with the law but the people’s right to protest should not be limited. We want to build a democratic state not a state like the Russian Federation where those who take to the streets are arrested. The protest can be banned through the agency of the Commission for Exceptional Situations but we do not want a confrontation. Amid the geopolitical crisis in the region, we do not want provocations in society. Even our foreign partners say that everyone has the right to protest,” Lilian Carp stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.

Moreover, the MP accused the mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban of making a pact with the Shor Party and of offering protection to representatives of this party so as to cause chaos on the city by blocking the main artery of the capital.

“It is the duty of the police to remove tents put up in the middle of the street but the City Hall is the one that should issue the removal decision. When the demonstration rules set down by the local public administration are violated, the City Hall is obliged to make a removal order. Based on such a decision, the police take the tents away. In this case, the mayor showed that he acts hand in hand with the Shor Party,” said Lilian Carp.

The PAS MP rejected the opposition’s accusations that the Shor Party’s protest advantages the government as it hinders the people who are dissatisfied with the actions of the Party of Action and Solidary from taking to the streets as these do not want to be associated with Ilan Shor’s party. According to Lilian Carp, there are other locations in Chisinau where the people can come together and protest against the current government.
