With the assistance of foreign partners, the Government of the Republic of Moldova aims to rehabilitate the Soroca-Arionești-Otaci road and the works on this road are projected to start soon. Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija said the Government’s priority is to rehabilitate the national and regional roads as this will offer access to high-quality infrastructure to the citizens, will attract investment and will contribute to economic growth, IPN reports.

The minster noted that the executive for 2023 obtained loans totaling €600 million and this money will go to rehabilitate roads.

“We already raised €600 million from three donors, the EBRD, EIB and the World Bank. The 90 km Soroca-Arionești-Otaci road is one of the objectives. A tender contest is now being held. The project was accepted by the backers. According to the bank procedures, the contractor is to be identified and the works will be executed under the strict monitoring of the supervisory company,” Lilia Dabija stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei channel.

The official said that even if 2022 was the year of overlapping crises, the Government managed not only to partially rehabilitate roads, but also to build new roads with money allocated from the Road Fund and with funds provided by foreign backers.

“Last year, we rehabilitated 300 km of roads and 43 km of these are new roads. It goes to the road that bypasses Comrat town and the Porumbrei-Cimișlia bypassing road and the rehabilitation of a 6 km section of the road belt of the municipality of Chisinau that is awaited by most of the citizens. Now, with support from the World Bank, we are close to raising another loan, of over US$120 million. This money will be used to rehabilitate another five roads. Hundreds of citizens in Moldova’s localities will benefit from rehabilitated regional roads,” explained the minister.

Recently, the Cabinet approved the program on the use of the 1.48 billion lei Road Fund for 2023. Under the document, the money will go to maintain and repair engineering constructions and public roads on a total length of 5,951 km.
