Georgia and Moldova take important steps towards the European integration, with mutual understanding, united actions and common efforts. Like Georgia, the Republic of Moldova should overcome the problems that remained from the Soviet epoch and should do comprehensive reforms, Georgia’s Ambassador to Moldova Merab Antadze stated in an anniversary event on the occasion of the Independence Day of Georgia and the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, IPN reports.

According to the ambassador, Georgia moves firmly towards its historical objective and makes every effort to build a democratic country based on the Western values and to become a dignified member of the European and Euro-Atlantic community. Unlike the year 1918, when the first Georgian republic was founded, today Georgia is not alone in this effort. The civilized countries of the world are ready to support Georgia so that this could successfully implement the historical choice made by the Georgian people 100 years ago. Moldova is one of these countries.

Merab Antadze noted the Association Agreement with the European Union, the coming into force of the Deep and Compressive Free Trade Agreement and the possibility of traveling visa-free in Europe clearly show the progress made by Moldova and Georgia during the last few years. “It is evident that the two states, for which the entry into the EU is the final objective, should make laborious effort. Therefore, the bilateral and multilateral relations of Georgia with Moldova, the European integration, the intensive consultations, agreeing of positons and mutual support for common projects occupy a central place,” he stated.

The Georgian diplomat also said that the economic, juridical, social and cultural relations between the two states develop in parallel. The bilateral visits and the high-level meetings, including the international organizations and forums, are permanent in character. There are also the historical fraternal relations between the two countries on which the cooperation between Georgia and Moldova is based now.

2018 is the year when Georgia marks the 100th anniversary of the declaration of its independence and the creation of the Democratic Republic of Georgia.
