The young man who killed three persons in Mereșeni village of Hâncești district, who was given 20 years behind bars by the ordinary court, could spend the rest of his life in jail after the Chisinau City Appeals Court gave him a life sentence, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the man was brought to justice two years ago, when he was found guilty of theft and intentional murder of three teens.
The crime was committed on November 25, 2018. At midnight, the police were informed that a house was burning in Mereșeni. Two adolescents, a girl and a boy aged 15 and 17, were found charred in the burned-out house. The third young man aged 18 was rushed to the hospital, where he died in a few days.
When being questioned by the police, the culprit admitted his guilt, saying he became acquainted with the victims through social networking sites. On November 24, he went to visit these and they drank alcoholic beverages together. A disagreement degenerated into a quarrel and the suspect hit the three with an ax and then set the house on fire. During searches at his home, the man yielded up the mobile phones of the victims. There was also found the ax with which he committed the crime.
The Appeals Court’s decision is executory, but can be challenged in the Supreme Court of Justice.
