The public libraries will be able to provide services for money so as to create better conditions for readers. This is stipulated in the relevant regulations approved by the Government, IPN reports.

Among these services are the printing of documents, lending of materials for being taken home, or of equipment, leasing out of library halls for holding private events, processing of information, editing of bibliographical references. According to the annex, 27 such services will be provided in all.

The services will be paid by hour through fixed payment systems or season tickets. The tariffs will vary between 20 and 100 lei.

The list of services and size of tickets will be agreed by the local public authorities that founded the public library.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Corneliu Popovici said the money earned from providing services for money could be invested in improving the conditions for readers and all visitors of public libraries.

The minister noted the libraries currently provide a large number of tariff-free services.
