The Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova, together with national libraries, devised managerial recommendations for librarians that are useful during the pandemic and after it. Also, the Association was subject to assessment by two international organizations and, as a result, it applied to two institutional development programs. The Association’s achievements in 2020 were presented by Elena Pintilei, president of the Association, in an annual conference titled “Libraries of the Republic of Moldova under new normality: accomplishments, involvements and prospects of the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova”, IPN reports.
Elena Pintilei said that during the pandemic year, the Association managed to maintain communication with its members and users, using website resources and social networking sites. “The rise in the number of visits to the website used by the Association’s members and partners confirms this,” stated Elena Pintilei.
According to her, the social networking sites are now those platforms that can become efficient when communication is needed. The Association of Librarians maintained efficient communication with decision makers of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research in charge of libraries and with other national and local decision makers. It developed a policy to extend the partnerships and in the course of this year signed five cooperation agreements, which yielded results.
Eugenia Bejan, secretary of the Association, said one of the two promoted institutional development programs, “Hour to Know”, is popular with children and grownups. It forms part of an international project initiated by a German foundation. The project promotes not only reading, but also knowledge in general. In the Republic of Moldova, the program started in September 2019 and was officially completed in July 2020, but the libraries expressed their willingness to continue those activities. The program covered 101 libraries.
Ludmila Corghenci, head of the Center of Continuous Training in Bibliotechonomy and Information Sciences at the National Library, said the other project, “Summer Academy for Librarians”, was at its fifth edition. The activities were carried out during three days at the end of July. The project centered on three content dimensions: reading in the digital era; creative thinking centered on opportunities, and professional inclusion through digital inclusion.
Founded in 1991, the Association of Librarians of the Republic of Moldova is a nongovernmental organization that combines the efforts of interested factors to support the professional and social status of librarians, to promote and encourage persons who deal with the problems of bibliography, information and documentation.
