The Liberal Party filed a challenge to the Constitutional Court (CC) over the holding of the premiership by the acting Premier. Earlier, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said that Vlad Filat holds the post illegally and requested President Nicolae Timofti to name a stand-in Prime Minister, invoking two articles of the Constitution, IPN reports.

Mihai Ghimpu made reference to Article 100, which says that the post of member of the Government is no longer legal in case of dismissal, incompatibility or death, and Article 101, which says that if the Prime Minister is unable to fulfill his duties or in case of his death, Moldova’s President names another member of the Government to hold the premiership on an interim basis until the new Government is formed.

The Filat Government fell in a no confidence vote in Parliament on March 5. On April 10, Nicolae Timofti designated Vlad Filat as a candidate for premiership.
