The Liberals on August 11 sent the draft agreement on the formation of a pro-European majority coalition in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to the possible alliance colleagues. The information was confirmed for IPN by the head of the Liberal faction Ion Ciobanu. They expect that the document will be signed in the next meeting of the CMC, set for September 3, IPN reports.

“We want a stable, clear and pro-European majority coalition,” stated Ion Ciobanu.

The head of the faction of the European People’s Party Oazu Nantoi confirmed that they work on the accord, but said that the process is less dynamic because a part of the colleagues are vacationing.

One of the two Liberal-Democratic councilors in the CMC, Ghenadie Dumanschi, said that even if many of their colleagues are on vacation, work on the alliance formation agreement wasn’t interrupted. A draft version was prepared and when all the councilors return from vacation, the agreement will be finalized.

The only representative of the Democratic Party Iurie Cazacu said they had a number of meetings and will yet meet so as to agree all the details and announce a pro-European majority coalition by end-August. According to him, the Liberals are those who should show a greater dose of dynamism in these negotiations because they hold the largest number of seats.

In the June 14 local elections, the Party of Socialists won 19 seats in the CMC, the Liberal Party – 17 seats, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Party – Iurie Leanca” – six seats, the Our Party – three seats, the Party of Communists – three seats, the Liberal Democratic Party – two seats, while the Democratic Party – one seat.
