The Liberal Party kicked off the campaign “United for Union”. Before and on March 27, when it is celebrated Bessarabia’s Union with Romania of 1918, the Liberals will carry out a number of activities, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said that the Union Road will be mounted on March 26. The participants will march from the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy in central Chisinau to the main block of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts that hosted the People’s Council, which was the legislative body in that period. The Union Road will end with a meeting of the National Council of the Liberal Party.

In the morning of March 27, the Liberal youth will stage an event in front of the Chisinau City Hall, while in the evening a concert entitled “United for Union” will be held at the Theater “Ginta Latina” in the capital city.

On March 24, the Liberal parliamentary group proposed including in the agenda a legislative initiative by which the day of March 27 is declared a national holiday. According to the Liberals, the initiative will represent an act of recognition and homage rendered to those who sacrificed their life for the unity, the Romanian language, freedom and wish to leave a richer state to those who come next. The proposal wasn’t included in the agenda for the reason that it wasn’t appraised by the Government. The Socialist and Communist MPs criticized the initiative.

99 years ago, the People’s Council voted for Bessarabia’s Union with Romania. Bessarabia kept the right to have autonomy and its own legislative body.
